Thankfully, Chapter 3 is right around the corner with answers. Unfortunately, for now, all we have is speculation, which is, of course, by design. OG Default skis returned on the last shop/day of Chapter 2. If it is a tease, it's unclear what it could be teasing other than the return of the old map. What seems more likely is that this is a tease, though it's also quite possible this is a misdirection. There could be nothing to this, but this seems unlikely. Why? Well, that's the million-dollar question.
If you haven't checked the new Item Shop, it's been updated with the OG default skins from the first season of the game. There's been scuttlebutt about this for a while, but it was reignited with the final Item Shop of Chapter 2.
